On Wednesday, the Biden Administration made several unverified claims about the future of “green energy,” including the suggestion that half of all energy in the United States could be driven by solar power by the year 2050, as reported by Politico.
In a statement, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said that a new study commissioned by the Department of Energy showed that solar power “could produce enough electricity to power all of the homes in the U.S. by 2035, and employ as many as 1.5 million people in the process.”
The study in question, the “Solar Futures Study,” was carried out by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The study claims that solar could power up to 1,600 gigawatts of power capacity by the year 2050, but would have to see the United States enact radical policies to ban fossil fuels and force Americans onto new sources of power first.
However, the study also claimed that even if the energy sector continues in a “business as usual” manner “without a concerted policy effort,” solar could still increase by a factor of seven by 2050, which would allegedly lower power grid carbon emissions by 45 percent by 2035, and 61 percent by 2050.
“Market forces and technology will drive significant deployment of solar and other clean energy technologies,” the report claimed, “as well as substantial decarbonization.”
The study will undoubtedly be cited by the Biden Administration as Democrats in Congress work on a massive budget reconciliation bill, which aims to spend as much as $3.5 trillion of taxpayers’ money on a variety of far-left agenda items. Among other provisions, the bill would include several measures to crack down on fossil fuels and aggressively enact “green” alternatives such as solar.
